SmokeLow speed winds flowing up-valley in the afternoon will likely result in smoke production enough to affect areas close to the fire, especially Waldo Lake. Oakridge may have some smoke in the morning as is common with cooler air flowing from the fire area down the Salmon Creek drainage. Crater Lake may receive some smoke from the Rum Creek fire to the southwest. Other locations further from the fire should not be affected by smoke from this fire.

Cedar Creek Fire Update, Aug 27
Updated On: 08/27/2022
Current Situation: Calm weather and fire behavior have provided windows of opportunity for fire suppression. In the Waldo Lake Wilderness firefighters are building direct fireline using minimum impact suppression tactics (MIST) from Waldo Lake westward. Outside the wilderness boundary, bulldozers are working southeast from Koch Road toward Edith Creek. Spirit Lake spike camp was established outside of the wilderness for crews building direct line along the east flank. Helicopters continue to support ground operations with bucket drops and supply sling loads to spike camps.
Cedar Creek Fire Update, Aug 26
Updated On: 08/26/2022
Current Situation: Fire crews in Waldo Lake Wilderness completed one half mile of fireline to the west primarily using water from small streams. Two additional hotshot crews were inserted in the wilderness to assist in constructing this key piece of handline. Heavy equipment continued building direct fireline to the east from Koch Road toward the wilderness with a goal of joining both the hand and equipment lines. Timber sawyers continued cutting hazard trees along Black Creek Road making it safer for firefighters and heavy equipment to continue fire suppression operations.
Smoke: We should see light smoke in most of the forecast area. Oakridge will probably experience little smoke today. Areas east of the fire, including Waldo Lake and La Pine, will probably receive more smoke than yesterday. Cresent Lake will probably have overall Moderate air quality with periods of lighter smoke mid-day. The Windigo Fire is not producing significant amounts of smoke.
Thursday's weather should be much like Wednesday except a little warmer and the winds will blow most of the day and overnight out of the west. We should see light smoke in most of the forecast area. Oakridge will probably experience some smoke from early morning downslope winds near the fire, but it should lift by noon. Areas east of the fire, including Waldo Lake, will probably receive much more smoke than yesterday. Cresent Lake will probably have overall Moderate air quality with periods of lighter smoke on and off all day.
