SmokeAreas east of the Cedar Creek fire will continue to have thegreatest smoke impacts today with La Pine, Sunriver andBend in the moderate range. Oakridge will have someincrease in smoke impacts today with moderate tooccasional USG. Easterly flow may bring increasing smoke toEugene/Springfield early on Wednesday. Expect moderate,possible USG conditions in the morning, improving tomoderate to good in the afternoon.

 Cedar Creek Fire Smoke Outlook, Sept. 5-6Special Statement Fire Weather Watch in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening for dry and unstable conditions. Fire The Cedar Creek Fire in Central Oregon is 17,625 acres with 12% containment. The fire grew 910 acres yesterday. We are expecting moderate to active fire activity today, with slightly warmer temperatures and lower relative humidity values. Current Situation: Fire activity was moderate yesterday due to cloud cover in the morning and higher humidities. Firefighters attempted to engage the fire where it crossed the retardant line near Edith Creek, but could not gain safe access because of extremely steep slopes. Firefighters initiated a strategic firing operation in the southwest area of the fire on Forest Service Road 2421. Humidities were very high, making ignition difficult, but they were able to make some progress. Today, fire behavior is expected to be slow and steady because of seasonal weather in the forecast.

Smoke Areas east of the Cedar Creek fire will continue to have the greatest smoke impacts today with La Pine, Sunriver and Bend in the USG to unhealthy range this morning, but there will be some improvement this afternoon. Oakridge will have some increase in smoke impacts today with moderate to occasional USG air quality. Waldo Lake will see USG to unhealthy levels of smoke today through tomorrow.

Current Situation: Fire growth has increased toward Furnish Creek in the northern area of the fire. The fire spotted over the retardant line in the southeast area of the fire near Nettle Creek. The north section burned into an older burn scar. Last night, relative humidities recovered well, this combined with lingering clouds throughout the morning will help the fire be less active because of higher moisture levels in the atmosphere. Once the sun comes out in the afternoon fire activity will increase but growth is anticipated to be less than yesterday.
