Community Meeting: A community meeting will be held Tuesday August 30th, 6:00PM at Greenwaters Park Community Building, 48362 Highway 58, Oakridge, Oregon. Current Situation: Crews working in the Waldo Lake Wilderness continued building line, installing pumps and hoses between Waldo Lake and road 269. Two hotshot crews were reassigned from Waldo Lake Wilderness to the vicinity of Alice Creek to construct fireline near the northwestern most fire perimeter. Air operations were limited throughout the day due to smoky conditions causing poor visibility. On the Slapjack fire, crews monitored for hot spots and installed water bars. Water bars are diagonal trenches that diverts water to prevent erosion on steep segments of the fireline.  

Today’s Activities: Chippers will be working along FS Road 1928 between Huckleberry Flats Trailhead and FS Road 19, as a result this segment of road will be closed to public use on Monday. Access to the trailhead will be via Westfir-Oakridge (Westoak) Road in Westfir to High Prairie Drive. Helicopters will be operating from the Mobile Retardant Base (MRB) located near Salt Creek Falls to complete a critical segment of fireline by dropping retardant on an inaccessible ridge outside of the Wilderness near Edith Creek. Helicopters will be taking action on a spot fire east of Edith Creek. Air operations will be visible to visitors at the Salt Creek Falls Day Use Area and to motorists on HWY 58. Please observe and adhere to directional signage in the area. Timber fallers will focus on removing hazard trees ahead of crews improving control line along FS Road 2422 and 269 and to provide better access to the western boundary of the Waldo Lake Wilderness. Crews continue constructing fireline between FS Road 2423 and 317; firing operations may take place along this line if conditions permit.  

The Slapjack fire is 100% contained. Suppression repair is nearing completion; crews are back hauling pumps, hoses and other equipment no longer needed on the fireline. 

Evacuations: Currently, there are no evacuations in place.here are no evacuations in place. 

Weather: Temperature 75-82 above 3000 feet and 85-92 below 3000 feet. Humidity as low as 17-22. Winds out of the east, south east 5mph, becoming northwest 3-6 with gusts to 12 in the afternoon  

Closures: An expanded Area Closure is in place as of August 23rd for the Cedar Creek Fire. This includes all trailheads and dispersed camping west and north of Waldo Lake. The lake, campgrounds, and trails (including the PCT) on the east side remain open. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place.  

Restrictions: Fire restrictions are in place on the Willamette National Forest with the exception of the Three Sisters, Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington, Waldo Lake, and Diamond Peak Wilderness areas.
