The South Fork Complex originally consisted of 10 fires burning in both the Shasta-Trinity and Six Rivers National Forests that were all lightning caused on August 17, 2023.

The Complex now consists of four main fires due to seven of the fires (3-2, 3-3, 3-4, 3-5, 3-6, 3-7, and 3-8) burning together and being named the Pilot Fire. The remaining three fires of the Complex are the 3-9 Fire, Sulfur Fire, and the Pellitreau Fire.

Evacuation Warning: As of 8:00 a.m. on September 5, 2023, all Evacuation Warnings have been lifted in both Trinity and Humboldt counties.

Forest Closure: Forest Closure order for the South Fork Complex Fire continues to be in effect for the Six River National Forest and is posted on the Six Rivers National Forest website. The Shasta-Trinity National Forest has lifted their closure order for the South Fork Complex Fire.  Please note Route 1 remains closed from the southern border to the northern border of the Six River National Forest closure area.

Fuels Involved

The 3-9 fire is burning mostly in the 2015 Route Complex footprint. Vegetation and fuels include 8-yearold brush, grass, snags and heavy dead and down fuels, in second growth mixed conifer forest. Fuels are classified as Scott - Burgan GR2, GS2, SH4, TU2 and TU5 fuel models. Live and dead fuel moistures are just above and approaching average for this time of year. Fire is mostly smoldering in stump holes, heavy downed fuels, logs and second growth mixed conifer litter and duff.

Significant Events

Minimal fire behavior observed or anticipated unless fire crosses outside of control lines. There are isolated areas of interior heat on the Pilot and 3-9 fires as indicated by the 9/13 infrared (IR) flight. Anticipated fire behavior is primarily smoldering with slightly elevated flare-up potential as warming and drying continues. Ongoing mop-up efforts continue to mitigate much significant fire behavior potential or threat.

Outlook
Planned Actions

Continue utilizing assigned resources to patrol control lines, mop-up and continue suppression repair to meet the incidents objectives. Pilot fire resources will continue to patrol and mop-up any threat to the line, while also beginning suppression repair along contingency lines.

Remarks
