Firefighters responded to a smoke report at 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 23, 2023, north of Highway 169 near the community of Cherry.  As of July 30, 2023 at 7:00 pm,  the Racetrack Fire is holding at 405 acres and is now 100% contained with low fire behavior.

The fire is showing minimal heat, but potential exists for new starts in the fire area as forecasted drying trend starts later in the week.

Planned Actions

Crews will continue to patrol  and monitor the fire. The incident will transition to a Type 5 team on July 31, 2023. 

Projected Incident Activity

Minimal fire behavior is expected, mostly smoldering, due to forecasted monsoonal moisture.

Monday is expected to be the peak in the recent monsoonal moisture push with widespread showers and storms expected by mid to late afternoon. High temperatures will remain mainly in the upper 80s while RHs will be elevated and only fall into the upper 20s to low 30s.
