OtherTexas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) responded to a request for assistance in Roberts County from Canadian FD for a new start off Highway 60 between Miami and Canadian. During initial attack, the fire fire was very active with long range spotting and rapid rates of spread. The fire moved northeast crossing HWY 83 and 33, but stayed south of the town Canadian.
Heavy equipment engaged immediately to construct containment line focusing on the right flank in preparation for the wind shift. Currently, forward progression of the fire has stopped and resources will continue to focus on mop up and containment.

South to southeast 20 foot winds tonight at the fire site will increase to around 15 to 25 mph with gusts near 30 mph. Generally clear skies are expected today and tonight but will become partly to mostly cloudy by Sunday afternoon at the fire site. No precipitation is forecast at the fire site today through tonight and into much of Sunday, showers or possibly thunderstorms may develop late Sunday afternoon or Sunday evening at the fire site. A cold front will move through the fire site around 1500 to 1700 hours Sunday and switch the southwest 20 foot winds of around 15 mph or so to the west and northwest to north 15 to 25 mph with gusts near 30 mph. |
