Operational Update for Cowlitz Complex, September 17, 2023.

While operations continue on Cowlitz Complex, today, all personnel took time to reflect & honor the brave men & women who perished & responded, as well as their families, to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Today was a proficiency test for the short-haul helicopter crew at Johnson Creek Snow Park for the Cowlitz Complex. Operations included transporting crew, rescuing an "injured victim," and landing in difficult terrain!

Crews continue to check for residual heat on each fire using detection systems like thermal and other imaging by manned and unmanned aircraft in addition to ground resources.

The focus is to apply the right tool for the job depending on access, slope, and other considerations.

Check out this unmanned aircraft system (UAS) coming in for a landing.

Inspecting and putting gear and equipment back in service for future use is top priority.
