Current Situation: Ground operations on the south and southeastern portion of the fire continued to be supported by helicopter water drops. Handcrews in Waldo Lake Wilderness completed a quarter mile of fireline to the west using primarily water from small streams.  Heavy equipment crews continue building a fireline east from Koch Road along the fire’s edge toward the wilderness with a goal of joining both the hand and equipment line. Timber sawyers and heavy equipment are making progress removing fire-weakened trees from Black Creek Road for firefighter safety and continued access. Handcrews continue improving Fuji Mountain trail as an alternate fireline while heavy equipment crews improved Eagle Creek Road (#5853) with the goal to tie these lines together. Firefighters are improving Forest Road 2023, with the goal of slowing fire spread to the west.  On the Slapjack Fire, operations move into mop up within the perimeter of 8.7 acres. 

Today’s Activities: Increased fire activity is anticipated with higher temperatures; however, fire spread should be minimal with the light winds.  Helicopters will continue providing water bucket drops for fire suppression and logistical support to firefighters. Hand crews in Waldo Lake Wilderness will continue building fireline along to the fire’s edge, moving southwest toward Edith Creek. Heavy equipment will continue building direct fireline from Koch Road moving east toward the wilderness boundary. Timber fellers and heavy equipment continue assisting fire crews with removing hazard trees from Black Creek Road to establish safe ingress and egress. On the Slapjack fire, mop up will continue with an eye toward suppression repair.

Evacuations: Currently, there are no evacuations in place.

Weather: Fire activity may be more active today with temperatures expected to be in the mid-90s, however, light winds should provide for minimal fire growth.    

Closures: An expanded Area Closure is in place as of August 23rd for the Cedar Creek Fire. This includes all trailheads and dispersed camping west and north of Waldo Lake. The lake, campgrounds, and trails (including the PCT) on the east side remain open. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place. Huckleberry Flats OHV Park will be open Friday August 26, 2022. Please yield to fire crews and equipment that may be in the area. 

Restrictions: Fire restrictions are in place on the Willamette National Forest with the exception of the Three Sisters, Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington, Waldo Lake, and Diamond Peak Wilderness areas.
