The Willamette National Forest reduced fire closures around the Big Swamp Fire, opening many roads south of Diamond Drive (Forest Road 21).New Closure: To provide for public and firefighter safety, the Umpqua National Forest issued a closure for the Camel Hump Fire. It closes the southeast portion of the Boulder Creek Wilderness and some roads outside the Wilderness.More information at: Umpqua National Forest Alerts & Notices, Willamette NF:  https://bit.ly/3cv1Ms6, andDeschutes NF: https://bit.ly/3pMM0vP. Weather: Today and tomorrow will be cooler as a weather system arrives from Alaska. Some gusty winds are expected this evening with the passing cold front.  For smoke information visit AirNow.gov. Big Swamp Fire:  Minimal fire activity produced smoke yesterday in a few isolated areas. Firefighters continue to use a sprinkler system along the 2153 Road to check any advance of the fire toward the north. Elsewhere on the fire, crews are patrolling, mopping up, and repairing control lines. Potter Fire: Yesterday fire was creeping toward indirect containment lines. Firefighters are using a sprinkler system along the 269 Road to check advancement of the fire toward the south and are patrolling for hotspots near control lines.  On the east, north, and west, crews continue repairing firelines and roads, and mitigating danger trees. Camel Hump Fire: Fire crews were successful using water from the hose lay, as a suppression tactic with minimal environmental impacts,  to mop up most of the hot spots along control lines within the Boulder Creek Wilderness. Windigo Fire: Firefighters continue repairing dozer and hand lines to restore natural drainage on the landscape and minimize the potential for sediment to flow into local streams. Fire crews are making progress grading, repairing, and removing hazard trees along the 60 Road to the Windigo Pass Trailhead on the Pacific Crest Trail. Resources: 14 hand crews, 11 engines, 4 dozers, 19 water tenders, 5 helicopters. Total personnel 633. Public Safety:  As fire activity diminishes, hazards from fire effects and suppression activities remain. Crews and equipment continue to use roads for both suppression and post-fire suppression repair. Activities like brushing and chipping along roadsides and falling trees remain hazards on the landscape. You can help keep firefighters and the public safe by adhering to the closure orders until they are officially lifted.
