Firefighters at the Yellow Jacket/McElmo area were able to burn 35-acres of hand piles today on BLM lands within Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. Piles contained tamarisk and Russian olive from a previous invasive species removal project. Expect some light visible smoke in the area as vegetation in the interior continue to smolder and go out. 
Weather forecast looks good today and Friday for firefighters to burn 35-acres of hand piles at Yellow Jacket/McElmo project area, located on BLM lands within Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. The site runs north and south of Montezuma County Road G in Montezuma County, Colorado. Piles are from a previous invasive species removal of tamarisk and Russian olive proje
Today, firefighters on the BLM Dawson project burned approximately 60 piles to accomplish 5 acres of treatment. Dawson project area is in Disappointment Valley,15 miles northeast of Dove Creek, CO. 
If conditions allow firefighters plan to continue prescribe pile burning on February 28, 2024, in the Dawson project area on Tres Rios Field Office BLM-managed lands located 15 miles northeast of Dove Creek, CO in Disappointment Valley. 
Today, firefighters on the BLM Grandview project burned 148 acres of piles. Grandview project is located on BLM land southeast of downtown Durango, CO. This completes all the pile burning in the Grandview project area. 
Weather conditions are looking good for firefighters to resume pile burning at Grandview on February 6th and 7th. Grandview is located southeast of downtown Durango, CO on BLM managed lands. Smoke will be visible from Durango and Highways 160/550. If weather and clearing index are within the smoke permit parameters, then firefighters will initiate burning.
Conditions were good for firefighters to complete 100 acres of pile burning at Grandview and another 100 acres of piles at West Dolores Rim on BLM Tres Rios Field Office managed lands. There are no plans to burn the rest of the week at Grandview near Durango, CO. Firefighters completed the winter pile burning at West Dolores Rim today.
BLM Tres Rios Field Office plans to initiate prescribed pile burning on BLM-managed lands in the Grandview and West Dolores Rim project areas on February 1st and 2nd, if all conditions allow.  
Ignitions at Grandview burn unit were completed around 11:00 today. A change in the forecasted weather and abundant moisture in the piles made it difficult for firefighters to meet objectives. They stopped ignitions at 100 piles to accomplish 10 acres of treatment. Currently, there is no plan to burn piles at Grandview in the next couple of weeks.
Firefighters have the weather conditions to resume ignitions at Grandview today. Grandview is located southeast of downtown Durango, CO.  Smoke will be visible from Highways 160 and 550. Firefighters are looking at burning a small 25-acre unit today.
