Firefighters resume pile burning at Grandview located southeast of downtown Durango, CO 01-11-2024

Southwest District BLM Prescribed Fire
Publication Type: Announcement - 01/11/2024 - 10:23

Firefighters have the weather conditions to resume ignitions at Grandview today. Grandview is located southeast of downtown Durango, CO.  Smoke will be visible from Highways 160 and 550. Firefighters are looking at burning a small 25-acre unit today.

The project area has a detailed burn plan that outlines the parameters for prescribed burning and contains specific criteria regarding weather conditions and air quality that must be met to ensure control of the burn, as well as minimizing the potential smoke impact to local communities.

Expect visible smoke throughout today, and lighter amounts for several days as vegetation in the interior continue to smolder. Snow is in the forecast for today, and Saturday, and Sunday.
