The Sourgrass prescribed burn will benefit natural resources and reduce the risk of unwanted wildfires in the future. Managed prescribed fires reduce hazardous fuels and protect communities. Ecosystems need periodic fire to remain healthy, provide forage for wildlife, recycle nutrients back to the soil, promote the growth of trees, wildflowers and other plants.

Significant Events | Crews completed initial test area for fuels and was able to ignite the ridge from both the west and east sides to move into the interior. With 2/10ths of rain Tuesday night, crews are monitoring the area Wednesday and plan on re-ignition Thursday. The total planned acreage to burn is 323, we are currently at 40 acres. |
