BLM Tres Rios Field Office plans to initiate prescribed pile burning on BLM-managed lands in the Grandview and West Dolores Rim project areas on February 1st and 2nd, if all conditions allow.

Ignitions at Grandview burn unit were completed around 11:00 today. A change in the forecasted weather and abundant moisture in the piles made it difficult for firefighters to meet objectives. They stopped ignitions at 100 piles to accomplish 10 acres of treatment. Currently, there is no plan to burn piles at Grandview in the next couple of weeks.

Firefighters have the weather conditions to resume ignitions at Grandview today. Grandview is located southeast of downtown Durango, CO. Smoke will be visible from Highways 160 and 550. Firefighters are looking at burning a small 25-acre unit today.
Firefighters' complete ignitions today at Edgemont and Grandview pile burn units 01-10-2024

Firefighters completed ignitions around noon today at BLM Edgemont and Grandview pile burn units. All 65 piles at Edgemont were ignited. Firefighters on the Grandview unit started experiencing undesirable smoke dispersal and low consumption on the hand piles and ceased ignitions at 200 piles. Treatment accomplishments for the day for Edgemont was 40 acres and Grandview 30 acres.

Conditions are looking good today for firefighters to conduct prescribe pile burning on BLM Tres Rios Field Office manage lands adjacent to Durango, CO. Currently, both Edgemont and Grandview project sites have six to twelve inches of snow on the ground.

On January 10th and 11th, 2024, BLM Colorado Southwest District plans to burn 65 machine piles on BLM land north of Edgemont Highlands subdivision, along with 2000 hand piles in the Grandview area southeast of downtown Durango.
BLM Tres Rios Field Office completed 425-acres of pile burning at West Dolores Rim 01-09-2024

Over the last couple of days, firefighters were able to burn 20 piles of logging slash from a 425-acre fuels reduction treatment at West Dolores Rim project area on Tres Rios Field Office BLM managed lands located southeast of Dolores, CO. This completes burning in the area for the winter.

Conditions are good, especially with additional snow overnight for firefighters to continue prescribe burning at West Dolores Rim project area this afternoon. They plan to burn approximately ten large logging slash piles. Project area is on BLM managed lands southeast of Dolores, CO. Firefighters accomplished 275 acres of piles at project area yesterday.

Snowy weather conditions gave firefighters the opportunity to burn 175 acres of piles from logging slash at the West Dolores Rim project area on Tres Rios Field Office BLM managed lands located southeast of Dolores, CO. There will be some residual smoke for a few days as piles smolder and burn out.
