Cooks Peak Fire Update

Update: 5/10/2022

Fire Update:  The Cooks Peak Fire has held at 97% containment and 59,359 acres during daily wind events. Some smoke may be visible as fuels continue to burn down but the fire is not actively spreading.  A Red Flag Warning is forecasted today until 9pm and again tomorrow. Afternoon winds are expected to be 20-35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.   A Fire Weather Watch is forecasted for Thursday for continued dry and windy conditions.  Crews will patrol and mop up along existing firelines and continue suppression repair work.  Crews will closely watch and hold all lines as strong winds can carry hot embers across.  Resource specialists are assessing completed work and additional rehabilitation actions needed.  A group of incident resources will continue to support local resources with any new starts that may occur in the vicinity of the fire. There are 79 personnel assigned to the incident. Most resources have been demobilized or recommitted to other fires.

If you have any questions regarding the Philmont Scout Ranch operation, please contact the ranch directly at 575-376-2281.  The National Scouting Museum and the Tooth of Time Traders are open to the public 8 am – 5 pm daily.
