Order Number 03-03-03-22-03

Albuquerque, NM, Aug 31, 2022 – An area and road closure (Order 03-03-03-22-03) has been issued for National Forest System lands as described below and as depicted on the attached map as Exhibit A, within the Magdalena Ranger District, Cibola National Forest, Socorro County, New Mexico. This Order is effective on September 1, 2022, at 12:00 a.m., and shall remain in effect until December 31, 2022, or until rescinded, whichever occurs first. This order supersedes the area, roads and trails closure that was previously issued under Order No. 03-03-03-22-01 for the Bear Trap Fire. The purpose of this order is to protect public health and safety from post wildfire hazards and flooding. DESCRIBED AREAS/ROADS
The following developed recreation sites are closed to entry: Bear Trap and Hughes Mill Campgrounds. 
The following NFS Roads are also closed: NFS Road 549 (Withington/Beartrap Road) starting at Monica Saddle in Section 1, Township 5S, Range 6W, on the north, following southwest through Beartrap Canyon, ending on the south end at the top of the canyon in Section 13, Township 6S, Range 8W and NFS Road 73 in Section 15, Township 6S, Range 7W, before dropping into Whitewater Canyon. EXEMPTIONS
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
1.       Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order or a written determination by a Forest Service authorized officer that a permit is not required under 36 C.F.R. § 251.50(e)(1) or (2). 2.       Any Federal, State, or Local Officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting resource in the performance of official duty. 3.       Landowners accessing their private property. Any violation of this prohibition is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, or by imprisonment for not more than six (6) months, or both (see 16 U.S.C. § 551, 18 U.S.C. § 3571(b)(6), 18 U.S.C. § 3581(b)(7)).   For more information on this order contact: Magdalena Ranger District Office: 575-854-2281 The official order 03-03-03-22-03 posted on the Cibola NF & NGs website under Alerts & Notices.
