Location: 5.5 miles west of Nordman, ID in Pend Oreille County, WA                                                                                   Size: 120 acres               Personnel: 24                 Containment: 0% Incident Commander: ICT4 Hirst Current Status: The Diamond Watch Fire was initially detected on the evening of July 14th.  It was started by lightning and is visible from the Priest Lake area.  The fire is located 5.5 miles due west of Nordman, ID, and is burning on a ridge to the east of Diamond Peak in Pend Oreille County, WA.  An infrared flight mapped the recent growth at 120 acres, with most of the heat showing now on the south aspect.  This growth is associated with a predicted uptick in fire behavior due to high temperatures, winds, and periods of very low relative humidity.  There are no closures or evacuations associated with this fire at this time, but please be aware of fire traffic and heavy equipment on Forest Service Road 1362 and FSR 308 please expect some minor delays on FSR 308.   Planned Actions: Firefighters are currently working alongside heavy equipment to reinforce containment line along road systems, as well as evaluating other terrain features such as ridges and creeks where there is a higher probability of success compared to the current fire perimeter. Mastication is occurring to remove fuels from roadsides to support holding and containment, while ground crews work to construct handline at the head of Diamond Creek.   Objectives: Provide for the protection of firefighter and public safety by implementing a course of action that achieves incident objectives while minimizing firefighter exposure, mitigating public safety issues, and is based on sound risk management principles.  This is a suppression fire with a confine strategy.  Suppression activities are occurring where they have the greatest probability of success while limiting exposure to firefighting resources.   Closures & Evacuations: There are NO closures or evacuations currently in place.  However, when living in fire prone areas it is recommended that all area residents have an evacuation plan in place including having all important documents, pictures, prescriptions, and pets gathered up and easily transportable.  Residents of Bonner County, ID or Pend Oreille, WA can visit https://www.nixle.com or text home zip code to 888777 to sign up for emergency alerts.
