Smoke Outlook for Central Sierra and Greater Tahoe Area, Mosquito Fire (Wednesday, 09-21-22)

Fire

Most areas of the fire have received at least 1 inch and some have received over 2 inches of rain since Sunday. The fire perimeter is stable, with acreage at 76,290 and containment now at 49%. Smoldering and scattered heat remain in the interior of the fire, with continued limited smoke production anticipated as conditions dry and warm through the end of the week, and into the weekend.

Smoke

Yesterday’s smoke production was again limited by the rain showers, leaving the whole forecast area with Good overall air quality throughout the day. Today, some local impacts from smoldering fuels interior to the fire perimeter were evident in Foresthill, near the fire, and downriver toward the Folsom/Roseville area. Tonight and tomorrow morning, that smoke could return again. For the rest of the forecast area, continued air quality in the overall Good/Moderate range is expected.
