Mosquito Fire Smoke Outlook (09-20-22)

Mosquito Fire
Publication Type: News 09/20/2022

Smoke Outlook for Central Sierra and Greater Tahoe Area, Mosquito Fire (Tuesday, 09-20-22)

Fire
Over 0.75 to 2 inches have fallen over the fire area since Sunday morning, and there has been no increase in the fire perimeter yesterday. Containment has increased to 39%. Additional rain is forecasted for today and tomorrow, which will likely continue to limit fire activity to smoldering within the fire perimeter. Warmer and drier weather, along with a resumption of at least some smoke production are expected by the end of the week.

Smoke
Yesterday’s smoke production was substantially limited by the heavy rains, leaving the whole forecast area with Good air quality throughout the day. Today and tomorrow, some residual smoldering may produce light smoke and haze near the fire area, but rain and clouds are likely to keep air quality in the Good range throughout the forecast area. Increased smoke production is again possible later this week, with drier weather and warmer temperatures again in the extended forecast.
