Smoke Outlook 9.17.21

River Complex 2021
Publication Type: News 09/17/2021
Fire
Containment is up on the RIVER COMPLEX to 45% with only ~700 of growth. SW winds arrive by afternoon, which will increase potential for fire activity and likely increase smoke production through the evening hours. The ANTELOPE FIRE had minimal growth again yesterday, but there a red flag warning for SW winds this afternoon and more growth is possible. Rain arrives late tomorrow at the end of another windy, potentially active fire day. See inciweb.nwcg.gov for the latest.
Smoke
Stronger SW winds today will continue to clear areas SE of the fires to Good/Moderate, but likely intensify smoke NE of the fires. Smoke is less likely to accumulate overnight in the affected areas tonight. Tomorrow, the same pattern is likely, but with less smoke.
Health and Safety
When and where smoke plumes are likely to dictate smoke impacts, the patterns forecasted below for today can help you dodge those plumes. More about protecting yourself from wildfire smoke at: ww2.arb.ca.gov/protecting-yourself-wildfire-smoke/
