River Complex Fire Update Monday, October 4, 2021

River Complex 2021
Publication Type: News 10/04/2021

Etna, CA- Last nights infrared flight confirmed that the sources of heat around the perimeter of the River Complex continue to diminish each operational period. Crews completed the last section of direct line at the end of yesterday’s shift. The focus today will be to strengthen and improve the control lines and mop-up any remaining portions of heat. The crews which have been using “coyote tactics” and sleeping on the line near Stoddard Lake, working hard to complete the remaining control line in Div. N and Div. M, will be extracted back to the Incident Command Post (ICP) where they can refurbish their equipment, get resupplied, and take a well-deserved shower.
Breezy southwest winds are forecasted to arrive this afternoon ahead of the approaching cold front. These winds may increase smoke production in some of the remote areas of the fire, such as near Sugar Pine Lake in Div. Q and near Thurston Peak in Div. R. Both areas are being monitored by aircraft. Due to the remoteness of this section of the fire, the broken terrain, and the changing weather conditions, these sources of heat pose little concern.
