The Lime Complex consists of two staffed fires and sixteen unstaffed fires. The total size of the combined fires is 785,539 acres, and there are 158 resources assigned to the complex, an area covering 21 million acres. Each of these fires was caused by lightning. All unstaffed fires are monitored for growth and potential threats to identified values.
Highlights: Most of the work by crews yesterday focused on fire 244 near Lime Village and 240 near the Koktuli River. Despite the weather, firefighters were able to complete a few logistical flights and achieved an impressive milestone: with roughly 1,000 pounds of supplies shipped out today, that made for 150,000 pounds of cargo shipped to the fires to date. Logistical flights yesterday included sending out medical and communications technicians and fresh food boxes for the crews: 35 boxes to the northern part of the complex and 10 to Iliamna.
Weather: Rain fell across the entire complex yesterday, with over 3/4 of an inch received around Iliamna and about 1/10 of an inch at Lime Village. Today is expected to be a bit warmer and drier, with winds of 8-12 mph across the complex and higher gusts, up to 25 mph, in the south.
Door Mountain Fire (#244) – 84,434 acres. The focus in the north is on securing Lime Village and values in the Tundra and Trout Lakes areas. Today the Lime Group and North Point Protection Group (NPPG) will be combined into one unit. These firefighters will continue to mop up and secure the line around Lime Village to a depth of 50 feet. North Point Protection Group resources will also go into the Trout and Kotokbuna Lake area to continue work on protecting allotments.
Pike Creek (#239)/Koktuli River (#240) – 271,861 combined acres. The fires are 35 miles north of Iguigig. Crews will reinforce work previously done on and near allotments in the fire area as well as assess additional values on the Stuyahok River to the south.
The Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains in place over the southern portion of the planning area near Lake Iliamna. Aerial water drops and logistical air support remain active in this area when smoke and weather allow for safe flying. Fire Boss planes are working out of Lake Iliamna, as well as helicopters and other aircraft providing support to firefighting resources on the ground. Please avoid this airspace for public and firefighter safety.
