News

Etna, CA- Last nights infrared flight confirmed that the sources of heat around the perimeter of the River Complex continue to diminish each operational period. Crews completed the last section of direct line at the end of yesterday’s shift. The focus today will be to strengthen and improve the control lines and mop-up any remaining portions of heat.
Today, California Interagency Incident Management Team 15 honors the 40th anniversary of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.  The 215 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2019 and 2020 will become a permanent part of the National Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland, in honor of their sacrifices.  For more information, visit
River Complex Fire Update Saturday, October 2, 2021
Etna, CA- The River Complex has seen zero perimeter growth over the last two operational periods with diminishing heat signatures each day. The weather is forecasted to continue its warming and drying trend through Monday. Certain areas of the fire are expected to see temperatures in the low 90's with humidity less than 15% during this time period. These conditions will cause an increase of smoke production in the normal areas that were holding the most heat prior to the last rain event such as above Minnehaha Creek and near Sugar Pine Lake.

River Complex Fire Update Thursday, September 30, 2021
Etna, CA- The recent rain combined with shortening day lengths, are keeping the burn window each day to a minimum.  Today should be another day of low fire activity with fire behavior isolated to creeping/smoldering in the dead surface fuels.  Given the position of the fire on the slope and the lack of any forecasted weather events, crews should be successful holding the existing control lines and continuing with direct line construction.
