A Fire Prevention Order was put in place on July 13th restrict public entry, recreation and unnecessary traffic near the fire.  See full Order and News Release in Closures section.   Settlement Canyon is open to Camp Wapiti.  A pre-evacuation order remains in place for Ophir Canyon Residents. 

The fire is located 5 miles south of Tooele and 1 mile east of Stockton, Utah.   It is burning east of the Salt Lake Valley, 12 miles southwest of Herriman, and 13 miles northwest of Eagle Mountain. It is burning in steep, rugged terrain through timber, brush, tall grass, and a mix of conifer and juniper. 

The fire started on the afternoon of July 9, 2022, and was determined to be human-caused. 

The following were damaged: Stockton water treatment plant which included propane tanks, solar panels, and generator, multiple flatbed trailers, sheds, and two con-ex boxes. 

Great Basin Team 5 will turn the Jacob City Fire over to a local Type 4 team at 6 pm today.

Elevations 5000 ft to 7500 ft the fuels are pinyon-juniper, sagebrush, mountain mahogany, and oak brush. Annual grasses dominated the south slopes. Elevations 7500 ft to 10000 ft the fuels are mainly mountain mahogany, mixed conifer, and aspen. Perennial grasses are also at higher elevations.

Significant Events

Minimal creeping and smoldering.
The majority of the fire perimeter is cold black; however, there are a few areas where the large 1000 hr and 100 hr dead and down fuels continue to burn near the upper Soldier Creek drainage.

Outlook
Planned Actions

Crews will continue to patrol and monitor the fireline in Soldier Canyon area that are currently uncontained due to steep terrain and safety concerns. Aviation assets are being utilized for suppression assistance to ground resources and supporting a spike location.

Projected Incident Activity

Monsoonal moisture remains in the region with light to heavy precipitation possible. Cloud cover, high minimum relative humidity (above moisture of extinction) and predicted precipitation will minimize fire behavior. The majority of the heat is in the Soldier Creek drainage. No surface spread expected.
Hot conditions will occur throughout the fire area over the next 24 hours. However, monsoonal moisture is predicted to be over the fire area, with light to moderate precipitation possible with afternoon thunderstorms and high minimum relative humidity (above moisture of extinction). The majority of the heat is in the Soldier Creek drainage. The fire will continue to consume 1000hr and 100hr fuels in interior pockets. There is no fire spread predicted at this time due to monsoonal moisture and containment efforts.

Weather Concerns

Monsoon moisture remains in place across central Utah, allowing for afternoon showers and thunderstorms to develop. Heavier showers and thunderstorms developed during the later afternoon and moved into the region, bringing areas of gusty winds. The monsoon moisture will begin to shift more into Eastern Utah on Tuesday, bringing decreased thunderstorm chances near the fire region.
