Multiple wildfires burning southwest of Eastland, Texas have been combined for management purposes into the Eastland Complex. This includes the Walling, Wheat Field, Kidd, Oak Mott, Blowing Basin, Mangum, and Cedar Mountain Fires. The Walling Fire started on March 16th, the Wheat Field, Kidd, and Oak Mott Fires on March 17th, and Blowing Basin, Mangum, Cedar Mountain Fires started on March 20th. Texas A&M Forest Service resources including heavy equipment, fire engines, overhead, and Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) strike teams are responding. The fires are actively burning in thick brush and grass fields. Crews were initially focused on operations related to life safety and structure protection, and containment line creation where possible.

Weather on the day of ignitions included highs that were expected to reach the mid-80's, minimum relative humidity between 12 and 15 percent with strong and gusty winds from the southwest. A wind shift blew through the region at approximately 9:00 pm, remaining strong and gusty, and causing the head of the fire to shift to moving in a southerly direction. Strong winds and critically dry grasses contributed to extreme fire behavior and rapid rates of spread across the landscape.

Evacuations are no longer mandatory, only voluntary.

No growth or significant activity was observed yesterday, on any of the seven fires making up the Eastland Complex. Several resources were released to active fires elsewhere in the state. April 1st, 2022 fire officials have transitioned the Eastland Complex Fire from the Southern Area Gray Team to local jurisdiction.

 Pending any significant change in fire activity this will be the last update for this fire.

Current Weather
Weather Concerns

Low fire weather concerns are expected through tomorrow due to
recent rainfall and light winds. Breezy winds, warm temperatures,
and low afternoon humidity values will result in elevated concerns
mainly west of I-35 on Friday and through the weekend. Low fire
weather concerns are expected next week as widespread rain chances
return Monday and Tuesday.
