Nelson Creek Fire Morning Update:
07/21/2022
9:00 am

Size:
1,887 acres
Containment: 90%
Date Started: 7/18/2022
Cause: Under Investigation

Texas A&M Forest Service with the assistance of Walker County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), and local fire departments continued monitoring the perimeter last night. An infrared (IR) drone flight was authorized last night as well to further pinpoint any remaining residual heat.

A spot fire did occur on the left flank the evening of July 19th. Crews were able to catch and put containment line around the spot. The area has since been mapped and is reflected by the change of acreage.

The Nelson Creek Fire will continue to be staffed today. Resources will resume mop-up operations and patrolling containment lines.

Weather:

Hot and dry conditions will continue with wind speeds around 10-12 mph today. Temperatures are expected to reach 102 degrees with a relative humidity of 30%. A heat advisory from the National Weather Service is in effect until 8 PM CDT for the area including the fire location. Fire resources will be monitoring the local area in support of local fire departments.
