Lime Complex Daily Update
July 04, 2022, 9:30 am

The Lime Complex consists of eight staffed fires and ten unstaffed fires. The total size of the combined fires is 778,877 acres and there are 197 resources assigned to the complex. Each of these fires were caused by lightning. All unstaffed fires are monitored for growth and potential threats to identified values.

Highlights: Defensive burning operations were initiated from a prepared fire line around the community of Lime Village in response to greater than expected growth to the east on Fire #244. The burn is progressing as planned and is being supported by aerial resources as firefighters continue to secure fire edge and reinforce protection measures. Somewhat improved visibility is providing an opportunity to insert supplies and additional resources to augment crews already in place, reinforce existing structure protection measures around Lime Village, and conduct aerial reconnaissance of fires that have been hidden by smoke and/or clouds the past few days.

Weather: Cooler temperatures, cloud cover, and high relative humidity values were observed across the entire fire complex yesterday. Very light rain was seen across the southernmost fires in the morning, but the remainder were precipitation free. The trend toward wetter and cooler weather will continue today with an uptick in shower activity, though total rainfall will only be up to a tenth of an inch. Winds will remain light and out of the west or terrain driven.

Staffed Fires in the Complex

South Lime Lake Fire (#190)/Swift River Fire (#228), Door Mountain Fire (#244), Door Creek Fire (#273) and the Hook Creek Fire (#188) – 199,825 combined acres. Visibility improved in the early afternoon yesterday which provided an opportunity for air attack and Fire Boss planes to support. Supplies and additional resources were inserted to reinforce protection measures. Moderating temperatures and favorable winds provided an opportunity to implement defensive burning operations to further protect the community of Lime Village.

Pike Creek (#239)/Koktuli River (#240) – 271,114 combined acres. Lightning starts. The fires are 35 miles north of Iguigig. Resources continue to assess allotments along the fire perimeter to assess the extent of heat present. Crews continue to mop up to secure fire edge with assistance of UAS with infrared. Helicopters are assessing outlying areas.

Aghaluk Mountain (#206) – 115,620 acres. Lightning start. The fire remains 51 miles east of Aniak. Fire activity has been minimal. Resources continue to assist with point protection and structure protection on fires to the north.

The Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains in place over the southern portion of the planning area near Lake Iliamna. Aerial water drops and logistical air support remain active in this area when smoke and weather allow for safe flying. Fire Boss planes are working out of Lake Iliamna, as well as helicopters and other aircraft providing support to firefighting resources on the ground. Please avoid this airspace for public and firefighter safety.
