March 1, 2022 – Blacksburg, VA

Location: The 61-acre liatris prescribed burn area is located near Caldwell Fields recreation area and to the southeast of County Road 621. This project is one of two grass opening areas to be treated with prescribed fire to maintain an open area for plants and wildlife. The burn will encourage the growth and vigor of native flowers, one commonly known as liatris. Caution should be used traveling along County Road 621 to ensure fire fighter and public safety. Residents and travelers in this area will likely see or smell smoke.

Date and Time: The Forest Service plans to begin ignitions on March 2, 2022, if weather conditions are appropriate. This prescribed burn will be completed in one day. Firefighters will continue to monitor the area for several days after the burn.
