Sand Creek Fire Daily Update - September 18, 2021

 Acreage: 907
 Containment: 51%
 Personnel: 120

Current Situation

The fire remains at 907 acres and crews were able to increase containment to 51% on the west side of the fire. High winds today will test the fire, but increased humidity tonight should allow continued efforts at containment. This fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy, ensuring all actions reflect a commitment to incident personnel safety and public safety. As objectives continue to be achieved, the Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team 3 will prepare to turn the incident over to the Type 4 team on Sunday September 19, 2021 at 0600.

 Operational plan for today

Two crews and four engines will continue mop up efforts on the Northeast side of the fire. Logistically the camp at Dickenson Park will be downsized, and two helicopters will continue support with buckets as needed if the wind allows. These helicopters will also be available to assist in initial attack as they did yesterday with a new fire by Dubois.

 Fire Conditions and Weather

Saturday will see increasing clouds with some showers developing over the higher mountains. Some of these showers will be near or at the fire at times from 1200 until 2000 Saturday evening. A thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, but they will be very isolated in nature. Sunday will get windy again ahead of a weather system that moves in Sunday night and Monday with much colder air and scattered rain and snow showers.
