Sand Creek Fire Update - September 17,2021

Sand Creek Fire Wildfire
News – 9/17/2021

Acreage: 907
Containment: 42%
Personnel: 136
Current Situation

The fire remained at 907 acres and crews were able to increase containment to 42% on the North side of the fire. The Red Flag Warning remains in place for today’s weather, providing another challenge to firefighters for the third day in a row, but also an opportunity to test the fire’s containment. As objectives continue to be achieved, the Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team 3 will prepare to turn the incident over to the Type 4 team on Sunday September 19, 2021.

 Operational plan for today

Both Division Alpha and Division Delta will continue mop-up efforts to increase containment. Division Sierra and the North Fork Structure Protection Group will remove structure protection equipment installed at the beginning of the fire.  All divisions will continue rehabilitation work on firelines, installing water bars to help reduce erosion, and scatter slash.  Aerial resources will continue water drops on active fuels and work areas inaccessible to ground resources.

Shoshone and Arapaho Fish and Game Road Closure
The Shoshone and Arapaho Fish and Game have issued a road closure for the Moccasin Lake and Dickinson Park Road located within the Wind River Indian Reservation.

 Fire Conditions and Weather
Friday will see dry weather and wind increasing again to near speeds that occurred Thursday. Red Flag conditions are expected during the afternoon hours with low humidity and wind gusts over 30 mph. A slight chance of showers and storms Saturday will have wind gusts over 40 mph with only light rainfall amounts.
