Sand Creek Fire Daily Update - September 16, 2021

Acreage: 907
Containment: 30%
Personnel: 187
The fire remained at 907 acres and 30% containment though the Red Flag Warning yesterday.  Aerial resources were able to continue support of the fire throughout the windy conditions and conduct bucket drops on areas of increased activity.  Crews were able to successfully continue direct work on the fire line and areas of heat increased by warm windy weather.  This fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy, ensuring all actions reflect a commitment to incident personnel safety and public safety.   Planning towards the future, the current Type 3 incident management team may transition to a Type 4 team on Sunday as the current actions continue to trend successful.

Operational plan for today

The Red Flag Warning continues through today with low humidity, higher temperatures, and winds that can contribute to active fire behavior.  Areas of smoke may become visible again this afternoon.  Both division Alpha and Delta will continue direct line construction efforts to increase containment as well as address hotspots and areas with active fuels within the fire.  Division Sierra will have ground crews access the south side of the fire line. The North Fork Structure group including the night shift will remain in place to monitor the area.  Crews will also begin to work on suppression repair and rehabilitation work.  Aerial resources will continue water drops in communication with ground crews to work areas of heat.

Shoshone and Arapaho Fish and Game Road Closure
The Shoshone and Arapaho Fish and Game have issued a road closure for the Moccasin Lake and Dickinson Park Road located within the Wind River Indian Reservation.

Fire Conditions and Weather

Strong northwesterly flow building in behind the departing ridge will continue critical fire weather concerns in the region through Thursday. Westerly wind will increase throughout the day to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph will be possible through the day.  Elevated to critical fire weather concerns are forecast to remain through today and briefly into Friday.
