Sand Creek Fire Update-September 12, 2021

At 8:00 pm on Saturday September 11, the Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team 3, assumed command of the Sand Creek Fire.  This fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy, ensuring all actions reflect a commitment to incident personnel safety and public safety.  A multi-mission aircraft (MMA) flight flew over the fire area mid-morning yesterday and mapped the fire at 749 areas.  The fire is located in remote and rugged terrain.

Operational plan for today
Aerial resources will continue support of the fire conducting multiple water drops on areas of heat within the fire and the fire edge.  Crews will be utilizing existing roads, trails, and natural features to keep the fire footprint as small as practicable. Crews will also scout opportunities for direct or indirect lines.  Assessment on structure protection needs with be conducted in the North Fork Popo Agie corridor and the Dickinson Park area.

Shoshone and Arapaho Fish and Game Road Closure
The Shoshone and Arapaho Fish and Game have issued a road closure for the Moccasin Lake and Dickinson Park Road located within the Wind River Indian Reservation

Fire Conditions and Weather
Upper-level westerly flow behind a departing cold front will keep near-seasonal temperatures with highs in the mid-60s and lows in the upper 30s to low 40s overnight.  Near critical fire weather concerns will return today as west to southwest winds with gusts up to 30 mph return.   A cold front will move into the western mountains Sunday and spread chances of wetting rain eastward into Sunday night.
