WINDY PASS FIRE UPDATE
Date: Sunday, August 15, 2021 – 7:30 a.m.
Contact: Fire Information, 509-653-1468
Personnel on the ground: 98
Current Status: The fire is in full mop-op mode, and crews are continuing to monitor the perimeter for hot spots, completing mop-op where those spots presented a threat to control lines. Fire behavior is minimal and smoldering, but no active fire behavior has been observed. There is no anticipated change in the fire spread. Terrain within the burned area is steep and largely inaccessible, and smokejumpers assisted suppression efforts earlier in the week. Ground crews remain onsite. The fire is being managed jointly with the Schneider Springs Fire on the Naches Ranger District to the southwest, and some resources that were on the Windy Pass Fire have now been reassigned to assist suppression efforts in that area.
Weather: High temperatures and low RH value are currently in the forecast through the day. A cold front passing through this morning will bring high wind gusts. An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for today through 8:00 p.m. Closures: The Forest Service has issued Closure Order 06-17-03-21-15 for the Taneum and Manastash drainages including Forest Roads FSR 3100, 3104, 3111, 3120, 3300, 3330, 3350, 3352, 4100, 4110, and 4510.
