River Complex Fire Update Friday October 8, 2021

Nevada Incident Management Team 4 (Type 3) assumed command of the River Complex Fire from California Interagency Management Team 15 at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, October 8th, 2021. A very slow warming and drying trend will occur over the fire area through the weekend. The shortening days and excellent overnight humidity recovery will limit overall fire behavior. The heat remaining around the River Complex will be isolated to the burning of dry, dead logs along the forest floor. Firefighters will utilize infrared data to identify the remaining hot spots. They will evaluate this information and prioritize their efforts based on the proximity of hot spots to control lines. Water dropping helicopters are still assigned to the incident and will be used to assist ground crews in their mop up efforts in the more difficult terrain. Suppression repair is ongoing around the fire as firefighters work to stabilize firelines that were constructed over the course of the incident. An effort is underway to assess the roads within the burned area to identify potential hazard trees. Fallers will be used to mitigate these hazard trees to increase the safety of future travel along these road systems.
