River Complex Fire Update Tuesday, October 5, 2021

Etna, CA- As predicted, gusty southwesterly winds arrived over the fire yesterday afternoon. The winds caused an increase in fire activity as areas of heat near unburned vegetation became more active. Crews coordinated helicopters to drop water along the interior of the control lines around Stoddard Lake in Div. N and on the south side of Minnehaha Creek in Div. Q to minimize fire intensity.

Winds will be breezy again today ahead of the cold front which is on track to bring measurable precipitation to the fire starting tonight into early Wednesday.  This will begin an extended period of high humidity, light rain, and high temperatures in the 50s and 60s. There continues to be a strong effort on rehabilitating the equipment lines and dirt roads which were damaged during the suppression efforts. Three functional repair groups have formed for repair: Coffee Group, Ramshorn Group, and Bear Country Group.

Beginning today, crews from Trinity camp will be relocating to Etna base camp due to minimal fire activity and increased fire containment.
