The Harris Mountain Fire is currently estimated at 31,345 acres and 20% contained. The perimeter reflects an infrared flight flown yesterday at 11:43 PM.

No changes to evacuations have occurred since July 31st. As a reminder, evacuations are officially ordered by the local Sheriff’s Office. In the event additional evacuations are put into place, deputies will be dispatched to the area to notify residents and emergency notifications will be sent via phone if you have signed up for Code Red (Cascade County) or Smart 911 (Lewis & Clark County).

A Community Meeting is scheduled for Friday, August 6th at 10:00 AM in Wedsworth Hall, 13 Front Street South, Cascade, MT

Current and Planned Activity

Fire growth was minimal yesterday with active fire in the southwest fingers in the Sawteeth area. Fire activity is expected to increase in the afternoon with unstable air conditions.

Fire activity and growth are being monitored on the west and southwest portions of the fire. Aircraft will be used to slow the fire spread in these areas while Firefighters working the east side of the fire will focus on securing the area from Bird Creek to Soldier Creek as they construct handline directly on the fire edge. Engines will patrol around structures in the Sheep Creek area as well as check on pumps, hoses and sprinklers installed Novak and Cox Creek. A night shift, running from 7:00 PM to 11:00 AM, will continue to monitor fire activity along the western edge.

Weather:Partly cloudy with a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms with northwest winds 10 to 15 mph and temperatures in the low 90s.


As of July 31st at 6:00 PM - Evacuation Orders changed to Pre-Evacuation Notices for all residences from Willo Run Guest Ranch to the intersection of Adel Road and West Hound Creek Road; residents may return to their homes in these areas.

Evacuation Orders are still in place for residents living on Adel Road south of the intersection with the West Hound Creek Road, Cannon Lake Lane, Sheep Creek Road (east of Willow Run Guest Ranch), Sheep Creek Lane and Austin Lane.

Pre-Evacuation Notices are still in place for Novak Creek Lane.

Approximately 60 residences have been affected by evacuation orders and notifications. The Montana Red Cross evacuation center is located at the Cascade School. Families can also request Red Cross Services by calling 800-272-6668.
