BAER Hydrologists assess Salt and Lava wildfire burned areas

Salt Post-Fire BAER Burned Area Emergency Response
News – 7/29/2021

BAER Hydrologists assess Salt and Lava wildfire burned areas

The Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Hydrologists are assessing the burned areas in the Salt and Lava wildfires for runoff and flooding hazards that could occur post-fire during rainstorm events. They will include their analysis and findings in three separate BAER assessment reports for each of the wildfires and will be shared and posted on InciWeb.

The 1st and 2nd photos are of the Lava Fire burned area where BAER Hydrologists assess drainage and culverts post-fire conditions to see if there are threats to roads and other resources during rainstorm events.

The 3rd photo is of a ravine in the Salt Fire burned area where the BAER hydrologist calculates the potential flow rates for this drainage to see if the road or other resources could be impacted during certain rainstorm events.
