Smoke, cloud cover, and overnight rainfall limited fire behavior across the area with minimal fire spread. Suppression efforts today will be weather dependent with mainly patrol and mop up to take advantage of moist and cool conditions. Fire growth is expected to be minimal through Thursday. Overnight IR flight was not conducted due to clouds and precipitation.

Alder Creek Fire: Crews continue to patrol and monitor containment lines near Highway 43 and the scenic byway. Structure protection is in place and pumps and sprinklers are routinely tested. Logging operations continued to remove downed trees from surrounding roads.

Christensen Fire: Crews took advantage of the weather conditions to continue reinforcing and extending control lines on the west and northwest side of the fire. These defensive lines near Highway 43 are now complete. Constructing control lines along the fire’s edge on the south side of the fire is ongoing.

Trail Creek Fire: Aircraft dropped water onhot spots that remained in areas north of the Big Hole Battlefield. The fire spread north and west around Battle Mountain and into wet meadow barriers and grassy flats. Heat remains in the Gory Creek drainage with a little movement to the south and structure protection is in place. Burnout operations were conducted between Nez Perce and 3 Mile Creeks to reinforce firelines along Gibbonsville Rd. Firefighters are positioned between Gibbonsville and Three Mile Creek and will patrol, monitor and suppress approaching fire as needed.

Black Mountain Fire: No fire activity has been reported for nearly two weeks now. About one mile of debris chipping along Snowshoe Hare Rd remains. Chipping operations along Forest Service Road 7335 are complete and resources will be reassigned to other fires. Crews continue to patrol and monitor the fire perimeter.

Fire Weather Today: Much cooler temperatures and very high relative humidity combined with overnight precipitation of around a tenth of an inch has resulted in minimal fire behavior.  Additional precipitation of up to a quarter of an inch is expected today resulting in minimal fire behavior and growth. Cool temperatures and high relative humidity will persist through Thursday.
