489,287 Acres 21% Containment 5,813 Total Personnel
Lassen and Plumas National Forests, August 9, 2021 — After the smoke inversion lifted, the Dixie Fire experienced more aggressive fire behavior and movement in the China Gulch area between the gap of the Walker and Sheep fire scars. This gap does not benefit from scarce fuels generally found in the footprint of the previous fires.
On the East Zone, overnight visibility was impacted due to smoke and localized gusty winds that reached up to 25 MPH. Crews worked to achieve a complete mop up in and around Spanish Creek. Firefighters used indirect tactics in the Dyer Mountain area due to increased fire activity and were successful holding fire within the boundary. No smoke was observed or reported from Silver Lake. Fire activity was high or low based on variable fuels across the landscape. Continued cooperation in planning and sharing of personnel and equipment across the West and East Zones will support construction of contingency lines and any necessary community protection.
Dixie Fire West Zone – Fire behavior remained active overnight with areas of clear sky, calm winds, and moderate recovery of relative humidity. The fire will have heavy smoke this morning with some thinning this afternoon. Southwest winds will be up to 17 mph with a 5% cloud cover. Crews will continue to fight fire aggressively, construct direct, and indirect line to secure the fire perimeter. All resources are committed to structure defense in affected communities. Evacuation Warnings and Mandatory Evacuation Orders are constantly changing, please see below for information affecting your county.
