Dixie Fire Evening Update for July 29

Dixie Fire (CA) Wildfire
News – 7/30/2021

Dixie Fire West Zone

Fire activity increased today on the Dixie Fire in the North and West sides as unburned interior islands were consumed. Firefighters continued to strengthen and reinforce containment lines, conducting low intensity firing operations as weather conditions allowed. Significant progress was made in the vicinity of Butte Meadows, where firefighters worked carefully to connect indirect dozer line to the main fire. Hot, dry and unstable weather is expected in the fire area through Friday. Humidity values are expected into the mid[1]teens. Patches of smoke and haze will continue to persist in the valleys. Firefighters continue to work closely with cooperating agencies to ensure the safety of crews to scout for roadway repairs, infrastructure needs and removal of dangerous trees and vegetation.

Dixie Fire East Zone

The weather remained hot and dry today, with large pockets of smoke reducing visibility in various areas. The perimeter west of Bucks Lake looked good with strong containment lines and quiet fire behavior. North of Meadow Valley, crews continued to expand containment lines. The firing operation in Hambly Ravine was successful, and firefighters are cautiously optimistic about those containment lines. Crews continued to work on Mount Hough Road to protect Quincy and nearby neighborhoods. Along Emigrant Road, crews completed firing operations to protect Taylorsville. Firefighters saw increased fire behavior today on the north perimeter from Dark Ravine to the Round Valley Reservoir. Crews are still going direct on the fire perimeter in that area but may change tactics and work on the nearby dozer lines if fire behavior grows more aggressive. Southeast of Dark Ravine, fire behavior is calmer and firefighters went direct to the fireline in the Muggins Creek area. Firing operations are planned tonight and tomorrow north of Meadow Valley, along Mount Hough Road towards Spanish Creek, and along Emigrant Road. All planned firing operations depend on weather and fuel conditions, but if successful, local communities may see flames and smoke in those areas.
