Current Situation

  • There was some activity on the north end of the fire yesterday with trees torching. Today, fire behavior is predicted to be mostly smoldering and creeping in areas of heavy fuel.
  • The Type 3 organization will be shadowing the Type 2 Rocky Mountain Incident Management Blue Team as they prepare to transfer command of the fire.
  • The Crater Ridge Fire remains a full suppression fire. Strategically established indirect containment lines have been created and are being improved in anticipation of increased fire activity.

Operational plan for today

  • Firefighters continue to construct and improve indirect fire lines, utilizing natural barriers, and the use of heavy equipment is aiding them in their efforts.
  • Four to six days of work is expected to complete all planned indirect fire lines, working counterclockwise around the fire.
  • Firefighters are continuing to construct handline between Division D and Division H. This area is not accessible for heavy equipment.
