FINAL NEWS RELEASE
Yesterday, crews made progress on achieving the containment objectives on the fire, reaching a containment of 75%. Crews will continue to work on the unfinished portions of the lines, with the objective of completing 100% containment by the end of shift. Crews will work on removing hoses, port-a-tanks and pumps and returning them to the cache.
The fire line was evaluated by the local DNR district and the fire will be turned over at 12:00pm on 7/27. The local DNR district will continue to patrol and monitor the fire for changes in behavior or potential hot spots that need to be addressed.
As containment objectives are reached, crews will begin to demobilize and either return to their home districts or be reassigned to neighboring fires. All of the fires in the area (Spruce Canyon, Sherwood, and Nelson Creek) are requesting additional resources and many of the units will be reassigned to these incidents.
Level 2 evacuations have been removed as of 8:00am today.
Northwest Interagency Incident Management Team 1 would like to thank the community of Rice, Stevens County Fire District 12 and all of the cooperators in helping to secure this fire.
