Leland Complex Update 8/8/21- FINAL UPDATE

Leland Complex Wildfire
News – 8/8/2021

Leland Complex- Sand Mountain & Johnson Creek Fires Great progress toward total containment has been made on both fires over the last two weeks. Given the weather shift to more favorable conditions and the expected output of today’s shift, both fires will be very close to total containment for tomorrow’s change of command.   Today crews will be mopping up the last portions of handline in Shite Creek drainage on the Johnson Creek Fire. Monitoring and patrolling will continue as work shifts to backhauling supplies and the repair work associated with fireline construction. The public can expect to see smokes on both fires as internal fuel pockets will continue to burn. These areas of burning fuels do not pose a threat to containment lines. Both fire perimeters have remained stable for the last several days. This will be the last published update from the North Idaho Type 3 Incident Management Team as we transition the final stages of the fire back to the local districts.  Any significant changes to the status of the fires will be communicated to the public locally. The Sand Mountain Fire will be managed by the Deary Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) area office, and the Johnson Creek Fire will return to the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association (CPTPA) Monday at 6pm. The team would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the continual support from the communities of Deary and Elk River.
