ANNOUNCEMENTS:  This will be the final update unless significant changes occur. TRAIL CREEK FIRE | Start Date: July 8, 2021 | Cause: Lightning | 62,013 acres | 82% complete:  The Trail Creek fire is receiving significant moisture today in the form of heavy wet snow.  Personnel and equipment continue to be demobed and the fire camp located at the Wisdom airport is being dismantled.  Repair  work will continue in the coming days. A new closure order has been implemented which opens the area north of Highway 43.  South of Highway 43 remains CLOSED. ALDER CREEK FIRE | Start Date: July 8, 2021 | Cause: Lightning | 36,968 acres | 63% complete: The Alder Creek fire also is receiving significant snowfall today.  Crews will continue to do repair work around the fire.   SAND LAKE FIRE | Start Date: September 1, 2021 | Cause: Unknown | 228 acres: The Sand Lake Fire has a new closure (Order number 2021-D3-40) effective October 7, 2021.  Please check the new closure before entering the area.  WEATHER/FIRE BEHAVIOR: Today will be much colder with highs 28-33 degrees.  Snow looks to continue through Monday night with light additional accumulations.   Winds will be NE 5-13 mph with gusts around 20 mph.  Tonight, will be mostly cloudy with a slight chance of snow, with lows 18-23 degrees.  Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a slight chance of snow in the morning.  Maximum temperatures will be 31-36 degrees with winds NE 5-13 mph with gusts 20-25 mph.   SAFETY:  Please watch for fire personnel working outside the fire areas. Please obey all closure signs. Law enforcement is patrolling the closure areas. FIRE CLOSURES ARE CHANGING. BE SURE TO CHECK THE NEWEST CLOSURES FOR THE CURRENT RESTRICTIONS: ·         Gibbonsville Road is closed at FS Road 944 (Big Moosehorn Creek Road) coming from the east, all the way to Dahlonega. Big Hole Pass is closed. ·         Portions of the Continental Divide Trail remain closed.  ·         May Creek Campground is closed. ·         New closure orders have been put in place for the fires opening several areas. ·         Closure orders remain in effect on the Salmon-Challis National Forest (, the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest (, and the Bureau of Land Management.   FIRE RESTRICTIONS: Public lands in southwest Montana and central Idaho are in varying stages of fire restrictions.
