ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Crown King community meeting in-person today, July 7 at 6 p.m. Location: Crown King Fire District - 397 Main Street, Crown King, AZ 86343

ROAD CLOSURES: At the request of the incident management team, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has closed the Crown King Road, County Road 59 between Crown King and Cleator effective at 8 a.m. today, July 7, 2021, except for fire related personnel.  Access to Crown King remains via Goodwin Road, County Road 177 to Senator Highway, Forest Road 52.  High-clearance vehicles are recommended for travel on alternative routes into the community including Forest Road 711 and County Road 60 through Wagoner. The road has been closed for the safety of firefighters using heavy equipment working along County Road 59 in the closure area.  Bumble Bee road remains closed from Black Canyon City to the junction of County Roads 179 and 178.

Fire activity increased yesterday from the effects of a high-pressure weather system moving over Arizona, resulting in higher temperatures and lower humidity. Smoke columns within the fire perimeter were more visible. Crews completed a firing operation on the western perimeter to moderate fire movement westward into Horsethief Basin.

Today crews are continuing to prepare for a contingency firing operation off County Road 59 between Cleator and Crown King should conditions require that tactic in coming days and will monitor last night’s firing operation on the eastern border of Horsethief Basin.  Others are patrolling, extinguishing hotspots, and securing the eastern perimeter of the fire.

WEATHER: Forecasts indicate a warming and drying trend this week which will continue to aggravate fire activity.

EVACUATIONS: Presently the communities of Crown King, Cleator and portions of Black Canyon City are in “READY” status, Lorena Gulch Cabins are in “SET” status and Horsethief Basin is in “GO” status in accordance with Arizona’s Ready-Set-Go Program https://ein.az.gov/ready-set-go

FOREST CLOSURES: Arizona’s publicly managed lands are in widely different levels of closure/restrictions. Those planning to visit Arizona’s outdoors should consult appropriate land management agency web sites immediately prior to planning a trip to determine current restrictions and emergency fire area closures.
