Weather: The weather over the fire area will be calm over the next few days but will still be dry. Winds will remain light into the weekend. Today locally sunny, 85-90 degrees with winds 5-8 mph. Tonight will be 45-55 degrees with winds 5 to 6 mph.
Lava Fire: There is no new fire growth in the Lava Fire area. One crew will continue to patrol containment lines and engage as necessary with an engine watching for any flareups overnight. As seen from the valley, the fire is burning sporadically at the upper edge of timberline, above 6,600 feet and nearing the barren slopes of Mt. Shasta, with fire crews focusing on Diller Canyon and Bolam Creek areas. Resources still assigned to the Lava Fire will remain in the area as needed for patrol and to be ready for potential new starts.
Military Pass, Bolam Creek, and Hotlum roads remain closed. Please use alternative routes. Road closures are in effect for the Lava Fire due to road conditions, fire personnel in the area, and the railroad bridge construction.
Smoke will continue to be visible until significant rainfall occurs over the fire area.
Remember, with record drought conditions and extremely dry weather, it is critically important to adhere to fire restrictions. Illegal and unattended campfires continue to result in new fires in the area. Recreationists visiting public lands are required to “know before they go” what regulations are in place for each National Forest.
Bradley Fire: Effective July 20, 2021, Order No. 14-21-19 Bradley fire closure has been lifted.
