West Fire Update
Sunday, June 27, 2021, 8:00 a.m.
Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team Black
Troy Hagan, Incident Commander

Containment Increases to 98% on West Fire

Current Situation:  On Saturday, the West Fire had no additional growth. The fire remains at 3,424 acres and containment increased to 98%. The increased containment was due to wetting rain the fire received on Friday and Saturday, which dampened fuels and aided firefighters mopping up hotspots near established fire lines.

Today, firefighters will continue patrolling and monitoring established fire lines. As precipitation moves out of the area and fuels dry, unburned fuels inside containment lines are expected to smolder through the day, producing visible smoke. Rocky Mountain Type 2 Incident Management Team, Team Black will be transferring command of the fire to a local Type 4 Incident Management Team at 6:30 a.m. on Monday morning.

Weather & Fuel Conditions:
Sunday’s weather over the West Fire is expected to warm slightly, with northeast winds. Chances of rain are expected to decrease, and temperatures will begin to increase into next week. Temperatures today are expected to be 48-71º in the fire area and a minimum humidity of 33%. Northeast winds are forecasted to be 6-10 mph with gusts of 15 mph. Cloud cover, high humidity, and lower temperatures are again expected to contribute to moderated fire behavior again today.

Fire Restrictions:
Stage 2 fire restrictions went into effect at 12:01 a.m. Friday, June 25 for all BLM lands in northwest Colorado and for all unincorporated private and state lands in Moffat County.
