FIRE CLOSURE
 
 
Effective Saturday, June 5, 2021, pursuant to Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations, sections 1.5(a)(l) the following areas are closed within the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument.  
 
DESCRIPTION OF CLOSED AREAS: 
1. Facilities:
     Cliff Dweller Canyon and West Fork Trail Parking Areas 
     Park bookstore at the Cliff Dweller Trailhead 
     Park Visitor Center

2.  Cliff Dweller Canyon Trail and the Gila Cliff Dwellings

DETERMINATION:

The lightning-caused Johnson Fire has been burning on lands administered by the Gila National Forest since May 20, 2021. Currently, the fire is exhibiting moderate fire behavior and continues expanding westward towards the National Monument. Significant amounts of smoke are now impacting the National Monument, and the fire is threatening to burn on NPS lands. To reduce risk and to protect public health and safety, all park lands (or description of what is being closed) are being closed.

IMPLEMENTATION:

1. This order shall be in effect beginning June 5, 2021 and shall remain in effect until rescinded.

2.  Personnel assigned to the Johnson Fire are exempt from this closure order.

3.  Any violation of this closure is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00, or imprisonment for no more than six months, or both.
