Bobcat Moring Update for 9/17/20

Bobcat Wildfire
News – 9/17/2020

Virtual Community Meeting Tonight at 6:30 PM

Last night an evacuation warning was issued for the residents in the unincorporated community of Juniper Hills. The evacuation warning was for the residents south of Fort Tejon Road, east of 96th Street East and south of Valyermo Road west of Bobs Gap Road. In the south around the foothills communities the focus will be mopping up and improving the lines to secure the fire in this area. Around Mt. Wilson firefighters will continue to protect developments and push lines towards the north. In the northern portion of the fire work will continue on the dozer lines that were started last night, firefighters will be scouting for additional opportunities for both indirect and direct firelines north of Highway 2. On the east an effort will be made to secure lines between Highway 32 and the Ranch 2 Fire scar. This is the eighth day of setting records for fuel dryness and this is one of the factors that has been complicating control efforts. Tonight, there will be another virtual community meeting where fire management will provide an update on the Bobcat fire current situation. The meeting will be streamed through multiple platforms, including our cooperator’s social media platforms. Information on where to watch the Bobcat Fire virtual community meeting will be posted on the Angeles National Forest Twitter, Facebook, and Bobcat Inciweb pages as well as our cooperators.

Last night the fire crossed Highway 2 by its junction with Highway 39 and it continued to push north in the Cooper Creek area. Dozers worked all night long constructing line across the northern Forest boundary to protect the desert communities. In the south the fire was quiet around the foothill communities and the protection of Mt. Wilson continued to be successful.

Today will be partly to mostly cloudy today. Temperatures will be in the 80s and 90s, with humidity in single digits and teens. Winds will be generally from the south and light but will increase in late afternoon. There will be higher humidities and lower temperatures this weekend.
