Hot, Dry Weather Increases Fire Activity on the Hidden Fire YESTERDAY:

The Hidden fire became more active yesterday due to warmer weather. Crews worked to maintain fire lines while the fire burned through patches of unburned fuel within the interior. Firefighters assessed interior hot spots in the remote southwestern corner of the fire. On the northeast edge in the Chalk Mountain area, active runs with some torching resulted in spot fires outside the line. TODAY’S ACTIVITY:

Excessive heat warnings will bring more activity to the fire and more smoke will be visible today. Crews will patrol and mop up along the fire line. Helicopters will support firefighting efforts with bucket drops in areas of concentrated heat. Air operations will continue to monitor the fire with the help of infra-red mapping at night. With guidance from Resource Advisors crews will be working on rehab from fire activity and suppression efforts in affected areas. DRIVING SAFETY:

It’s a Holiday weekend and we would like to remind the public that fire apparatus will be traveling to and from the fire throughout today. With the influx of recreational traffic on the road ways in and around the Payson area, please drive carefully and be aware that fire crew vehicles and equipment are sharing the road with commuters. HIDDEN FIRE CLOSURE ORDERS:
