WILLOWS, Calif. – Sept. 25, 2020 – Mike Quisenberry's National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) assumed command of the South Zone of the August Complex at 7 a.m. Friday. Total acreage for the August Complex is now at 867,335 acres with 40% containment.
Crews continue to make progress in the Pillsbury Lake area, mopping up after successful firing operations earlier in the week. In addition, crews are working on approved fireline locations in Elk Creek drainage and the Sanhedrin Wilderness to prevent further fire spread to the west.
In advance of a significant change in the forecast for the upcoming weekend, firefighters worked on Thursday to improve control lines west and northwest of Lake Pillsbury near Sunset Gap. Pumps, hose lays, and sprinklers have been installed and tested, and dozer lines are being improved for use in firing and holding operations that may be needed as weather conditions change. The east side of the South Zone is fully contained, and is being patrolled with aircraft to ensure that any threats to control lines are identified.
Weather: Clear skies and quiet weather are forecast for Friday with temperatures of 75-80 degrees at higher elevations and 85-90 degrees in valleys. Winds will be northwest at 10-15 mph. A fire weather watch has been issued for critical fire weather conditions possible late Saturday through Monday morning.
Evacuations: In the South Zone of the August Complex, evacuation orders are in effect for portions of Mendocino and Lake Counties.
